Helpful Fairies.

I've been away for a few days, we got home late yesterday afternoon and though I had a quick look around I don't know what is happening out there.  I'm out this morning but will check on the gardens sometime today though I'm sure everything will be fine as I had asked the kids to come out and feed the chooks for me and it rained a bit.

One thing we noticed when we pulled in the driveway was that the area looked tidier.  Getting out and walking around it seems that the *yard fairies* have been here.  The grass is mowed, garden edges tidy.  Everything looks good.  We go inside and it looks like their cousins the *house fairies* came visiting with them.  It was real nice to walk into a house that was so much tidier and cleaner than I had left it.  So a BIG thankyou to our friendly neighbourhood fairies.

I think I will go away more often now...

Out With The Old, In with The New...Computer That Is.

My computer leaves here this morning and when I get it back it will be bigger, faster, stronger...you get the drift.
I will be able to be on here for more than a few minutes before it freezes or shuts down, I will be able to upload photos again, I will be able to go back to reading ALL the blogs I like and not just a few, I will be able to *reseach* more stuff...I will probably be back to wasting more time on the thing but as my book is nearly finished I can use that time.  Can't ride the ex bike while on here though like I sometimes do when I am reading but not all things happen the way we want. lol.

I have been told that it may be gone for 3 days!!!  Just imagine all that I will be able to get done in that time.  If I don't start another book that is.  I have a list so we'll see.

BLOGS and Blogging.

Do you have a BLOG?  If so, Why do you blog?  Do you have a regular time for blogging?  For reading blogs?
Do you not do other stuff so that you can blog or read blogs?

I have 3 now.  Yes 3.  Three that I write on but heaps more that I read, some I even follow.  But there is the danger.  You read someones blog, they have a list of blogs that they read, you go to one or two, they lead to more and 2 hours later you realise that the chooks haven't been checked on.  No wonder my house is a tip.
And now, because I have started walking again (and blogging about it) that takes out 40 minutes or so of my computer time so it has to now come from somewhere else.  Like housework time.  Not that there was a lot of that to start with but you can see my dilemma, I'm sure.  But it's a cheap. fun hobby so I'm sticking to it.

This one was to help me stick to my challenge to grow our own vegetable this year and it has succeeded in that.  We haven't bought any for us to eat and it will be good to have a record of a year in the life of...Hey, that sounds like a good blog title!  A year in the life of us would be a pretty boring blog though so I'll just stick to the three that I have,  For now anyway.  This one was only going to go for a year and then I was going to stop but it's fun so I will keep it going next year as well.   Aren't you all lucky, you can still read all about my exciting adventures in my backyard for another year.

Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk.

I couldn't use my hands/arms yesterday so I'm not sure why I thought they'ld be OK early this morning seeing as they still felt *wrong* so I supose it's my own fault but...

We bought a box of longlife milk a week or so ago, on special for 89cents litre.  I don't drink it but Hubby does and he put it, still in the box, up into the bookshelf where I have a sort of stockpile going.

I picked a pile of potatoes last week but as my spudbox was old and yuk I threw it out just before hand.  So I needed a new box.  This looked the right size and I did ask DD to get it down for me a couple of days ago,  She forgot, I wanted it, I tried.  Knowing that it wasn't a good idea.  End result?

 

I hope I've wiped it all up but guess what...

I was having a bowl of cereal afterwards.  The cat wanted to share, he put his paw onto the side of the bowl...Yep milk and cereal to clean up.  HoHum, maybe it's a *read all day* day today.  Again.

Gee Whizz, My Present Came Today.

The present that I bought myself because I was
feeling so sick came today.  Isn't the colour the best.

I'm Just A Big Kid.

It's 6.30, or was, I hear a loud rumbling sound outside and I knew what it was so *ran* outside to watch the helicopter fly over.

I also go out to watch the planes if I hear them.  Sometimes I see the old red bi-plane, sometimes it's the little
homemade planes but I cannot for the life of me remember what they are called.  Gyro copters?  We have 3 of those in the area.  Sometimes it's just a normal ol' plane.  Different helicopters go over, there is a big one and a little one that always go over in the same flight path and I know there used to be a bloke out at Hamel that had them so I presume it's still him.  And then we have the loud roar of the Jets.  I go out when I hear them and I look and look but rarely do I see them.  I can never remember if I need to look in front of the sound or behind the sound and by the time I have worked it out the jet is long gone.

And I say *go out* but usually it's daytime and I only look up.  It's not like I am inside all the time.  Really.

Winter Solstice = Garlic Planting.

Winter Solstice, To a lot of people that means "get your garlic planted" 
If you believe what you read then you plant in on the shortest day and pick it on the longest day. 

I do intend planting some today but I have already got a few lots in in different areas around the yard.  Today though I want to plant some under the Peach tree as I have read that it will deter leaf curl.

I will be planting garlic that we grew last year, some of it is already starting to sprout but that just means that it wont take so long to stick it's head out of the ground.

We don't eat a lot of garlic, not nearly as much as we should but I am not sure why.  I like the taste of it, it smells divine (if you like that sort of thing) and we have it here.  Maybe if I brought more inside instead of keeping it in the shed then it would get used more. 

Just thought that what I *should* do is chop it up and put it in the freezer so that we can just grab some ready to go.  That might get us to add it to more stuff.  It's silly to have so much and to be wanting to plant more when we don't use what we have. 

At least I wont be buying the cloves to plant so it's not like it's costing me anything but I do need to use what we grow or grow something that we will use.

Winter Solstice doesn't mean Garlic planting to everyone though.  To some people it's just the shortest day of the year and so from tomorrow our days will start to get longer again.  Soon it wont be so dark at 5am and I will be able to be outside when I get up and see what I am doing.  It's actuallt 1/4 to 7 here now and still way too dark to see anything out there.

Mothers Day.

My Chrissys started to flower last week and were in full bloom just in time for Mothers Day.  I really like these flowers but managed to kill quite a few plants when we moved out here so I *pinched* these from someones garden and now they are mine. Love em.

Tecknically I really did pinch them but I like to think that it was more a rescue mission.  They were tiny little half dead plants that I dug up, brought home, planted, sometimes watered and voila!  Lovely flowers for Mothers Day.

I would like to thank T for coming out yesterday with the cakes and pressies.  She is such a lovely and generous girl anf the only daughter that wished me a nice day.  I did get a casual "oh, happy mothers day" from the son as he was showing me some pig pictures so that probably counts?

I hope all the mothers reading this had a nice day yesterday and have one today and tomorrow as well.  Mums are special.  Every day.

Stormy Weather.

We had a massive thunderstorm last night and it brought heaps of rain with it so all the gardens are looking good.  Pity I didn't have any seedlings to put in, I think they would have done alright.  Only downside is the grass that was mowed last Monday and looks like it's ready be mowed again, will grow quicker.

We had no power for a few hours but did have plenty of candles so at least we weren't sitting in the dark.  Went out the back and the lightning show was brilliant but the rain was too wet so had to go back in.

Son came out, said he'd been driving around town having a look at the damage and mentioned the highway being under water and the shops getting flooded so me being the sticky beak interested person that I am I got him to take me for a drive.  I learned that he drives too fast and it is scarier being in the car with him than with his sister.  I think he  is a better driver though, he has the experience of bush bashing behind him.  The water had dropped a lot but you still couldn't see the footpath or the bottom of the shop door and walls.  Poor buggers would have had a mess to clean up this morning.

We gave him some candles to take home with him and I am thinking that I need to pull my finger out and start making some so we all have a good supply on hand.   I have a block of beeswax and a roll of wick somewhere so no excuses.

Had a walk around the place this morning and no damage here but have just seen some news showing some of the mess that Perth copped.  I feel for all those people, I would hate to have that happen here.

Weather guy says we will get some hot days this week so I am hoping that we get some mushrooms from the back paddock.  I will need to keep checking so if they do come up I get them before the cows trample them.

Australia Day.

My husband thinks that I am unaustralian. Because I am not interested in the tennis. Or the cricket. Or any other sports that Australia plays.

So I was thinking...What makes an Australian. Why is he more Australian because he barracks for Australia. I see that it makes him someone who is interested in sports. And I am not. We are still both Australian though. And I am glad of that. Some people see me as a racist. Because I think Australian rules and laws should apply to everyone living here. Everyone in this country should be treated the same. It shouldn't matter what race I am when I am filling out forms. That question should not even be on the paper. People are people and the rules should be the same.

I have no wish to travel outside of our great country but would like to see more of what we have on offer here. One day that may happen. Not that I will see our country in a day but you know what I mean. lol.

If you follow sports, good on you. If you don't, good on you too, it takes all sorts to make a country like ours.

There are some problems though and if I ever get into politics I will see what I can do about fixing them. But until then I will continue to live here, I will continue not following the tennis and cricket. I will continue being an Australian. And I will enjoy it, I hope you do to.

Dumb Dog.

We are dog-sitting again. Same dog as before. Last week I wasn't home all day so asked T. if she could come out and let him off his leash and spend time with him. She rang me worried that he'd gone walkabout as she couldn't find him. I told her he'd be in the hayshed eyeing off the cat. Sure enough he was.

This morning I heard a noise, heard a yelp, went looking for him but couldn't find him anywhere. No good calling him, though I was, as he is deaf as a doorknob. I then decide to look for the cat. Found him in another shed curled up on a shelf and sure enough the dog was there, he had got himself stuck in amonsgt the mess. Dumb Dog. Poor Rufus. Could you eat that cat. So cute.

Dog is down in the lefthand corner of photo, watching and waiting...

Just heard another noise and went out to check. Cat jumped down, dog chased after him knocking stuff over...Lucky cats are agile bcause this poor old arthritic dog that I was looking after had had a cortisone injection before he came this time and is it not as arthritic and slow as before. May have to keep a closer watch on him.

I Think He's Colourblind.

Last night Hubby was saying that there was a Blue Moon.
Well I went out to have a look and it was the same colour.
I even took a photo to prove it but I can't get it to upload! So who you going to believe? Me? Or Him?
