Once I learn how to use ...Thanks for the comments.
Once I learn how to use a tape-measure there will be no holding me back. And hopefully I will get a bit more *picky* as I go along and the jobs will be of a better standard. But even if they aren't they will at least be done.
I am off to make a list!

We all have to start somewhere don't we, I've finally started and that can only be a good thing.Barb.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11383714327462070532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847491402442204726.post-79141379755801120252014-08-28T08:49:11.728+08:002014-08-28T08:49:11.728+08:00Ooh, Barb, I am totally with you here. Lovely and helpful, but never here. I will have to work out how to do things by myself. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but I'm not convinced...
I am so impressed at what you have managed to achieve. Hope I can do the same when I need to!Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17803297366197086152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847491402442204726.post-89071463324595531242014-08-23T18:33:32.612+08:002014-08-23T18:33:32.612+08:00I think you're doing awesome. That's pret...I think you're doing awesome. That's pretty much how I started out. I wanted stuff done, Husband was busy, or distracted, or something. I got tired of waiting. I did things myself. I had trouble with tools and used to joke that they should come out with a 'pretty in pink' tool set for women. Which they have, but they tend not to be the greatest quality. Anyway, over the years I've figured out which tools I can manage, which tools I enjoy, and which tools to avoid. The drill is still not my friend, but a good hammer and a bucket of nails goes a long way.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11557512606416161272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847491402442204726.post-353800655959183752014-08-23T11:58:49.769+08:002014-08-23T11:58:49.769+08:00Oh, I am capable and picky. I once wanted shelves ...Oh, I am capable and picky. I once wanted shelves in a small closet. I took my level and marked where the bottom of the shelf supports would be. I had the boards cut to my specs. This was before I had a saw. But, the lumberyard cut them for free. Then, I took quarter-round and had it cut to my specs. These were what the shelves would rest upon. Then, I came home and drilled pilot holes in the quarter round pieces. When I asked my friend to put me some shelves up, he looked a combination of
"oh shit/okay/how did I get roped into this?" I fed him well when he came to help and we played board games. So, he agreed on the spot to put up shelves. NOT a bf, just fun and much younger.

Boy, was he shocked when all he had to do was hammer a nail into the pilot holes into the studs while he kept the pieces of quarter round level along my line. I should have used screws, but I had nails and would have to buy nails. At any rate, he did it right because he was a strong fellow.

I have lost my electric drill, too, so I feel your loss acutely. I have my own tools that will not be community property if I ever married. LOL My mother had a deep drawer in the kitchen with her tools. If anyone borrowed her hammer, she hounded them until it was brought back. We kids knew to go get Daddy's tools, but hers were closer.

My towel ring beside the sink fell off. So, I put it on the back of the commode so exbf could see it every time he was here. Do you think he has even mentioned it? NO! It has been there for two years!!! He knows nothing about any kind of construction. The next husband will have to know which end of a hammer to use or be rich enough to hire the work done...LOL.

I am afraid to climb very far. With back and knee problems I am shaky on the floor, much less on a ladder. Plus, the torn rotator cuffs assure I cannot hold on or reach up far.

Once in Birmingham, two PhDs and I (with a MA) put up bi-fold doors for another professor. The right guy could have done it faster, but other than a bad cut on the bottom that did not show, we did okay. Luckily, what one did not know, the other of us women did. Well, we all had a wonderful dinner, thanks to the prof getting her door up. Practical Parsimonyhttp://www.practical-parsimony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
